Upper shore Workforce Investment Board
Meeting

May 28, 2002  

Charlie Sommers, acting Vice-Chairman, called meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.  Chairman George Weeks took over at 5:45 a.m.  

MINUTES

Motion made by Russ Carlow, seconded by Hoyt Heinmuller to accept the minutes from the April 23, 2002 meeting as written.  Motion carried by all.  

ATTENDEES

Board members in attendance were: Bob Brannock, George Brittingham,

Russ Carlow, Jane Conlin, Jeanne Ewell, Hoyt Heinmuller, Stan Hutchinson, Dave McIntire, John Pyle, Royce Sampson, Charlie Sommers, Dale Spencer, and George Weeks.  Other attendees: Pat Baker, Glorya Cowley, Joanna Killey, Melissa Mackey, Brenda Marzucco, Dan McDermott, Teresa Stafford.  

2002-2003 BUDGETS

Each of the budgets were reviewed and voted on as follows:

Administration – motions for approval made by Dave McIntire and Stan Hutchinson; motion carried by all.

Adult Grant – motions for approval made by Russ Carlow and Hoyt Heinmuller; motion carried by all.

Dislocated Workers – motions for approval made by Dave McIntire and Royce Sampson; motion carried by all.

In School Youth – motions for approval made by Royce Sampson and Stan Hutchinson; motion carried by all.

Out of School Youth – motions for approval made by Hoyt Heinmuller and Royce Sampson; motion carried by all.  

2000-2001 PERFORMANCE RESULTS

Dan McDermott reviewed the first year performance results for the WIA and how they differ from previous JTPA.  

SECTORIAL FORMATION/TRANSPORTATION

The Sectorial Formation for Healthcare is coming to a close.  A grant requirement is that the findings are shared with stakeholders.  The WIB is a stakeholder in this project, therefore Dan McDermott brought Board members up to date as to what the project team had accomplished.  

Dan also reviewed the accomplishments and funding that is to be provided for the M.U.S.T. project.  

YOUTH SERVICES INVENTORY

Brenda Marzucco gave an overview of what services are presently offering GED and diploma options in the upper shore area.  A meeting is scheduled with the Upper Shore Career Connections team for the purpose of devising a local interagency coordination strategy.

OTHER ISSUES

The contract for the Mobile Training Unit has been signed, and construction of the Unit is underway.  

At 6:40 p.m. the meeting was closed and the Board went into an Executive Session.
