The meeting was called
to order at 5:35 pm.
I. Stipend/Mileage
Proposal
The Steering Committee discussed a proposal from Melissa Mackey to modify
the support levels offered to participants attending training. Support
levels have not been examined or modified for several years. The members
discussed the increasing costs of fuel, day care and incidentals. The
members recommended a proposal that ties the travel reimbursement to the
Internal Revenue Service reimbursement amount, the day care reimbursement to
Social Services reimbursement amounts and $5 per day for incidentals. A
proposal will be sent to the WIB for action at the September 27, 2005
meeting.
II. By Laws
a. Status of
amendment
The By Law amendment
concerning meeting attendance will be discussed at the September 27, 2005
meeting.
b. Conflict
of interest
Mr. McDermott
discussed the necessity for a conflict of interest policy. A policy from the
Shore Health System Board of Directors was briefly
discussed and the members asked that Mr. McDermott poll the WIBs in Maryland
to determine if such policies exist.
III. WIB Recruitment
a.
Membership recruitment
Membership recruitment was discussed.
Several appointments are pending with counties and state agencies. George
Weeks asked Mr. McDermott to contact potential nominees from Caroline
County. The chart below is a summary of the status of recruitment as of
September 13, 2005.

The members discussed the status of
officer recruitment. There is still an opening for a non private sector
member. The nominations are as follows.
President: George Weeks
consented to be nominated for the position of USWIB President
Vice President: Dale
Spencer consented to be nominated for the position of USWIB Vice President.
Secretary/Treasurer:
Philip Bramble consented to be nominated for the position of USWIB
Secretary/Treasurer.
Private Sector Member:
Hoyt Heinmuller consented to be nominated for the position of private sector
representative on the Steering Committee.
Non Private Sector
Steering Committee Member: Stan Hutchison consented to be nominated for a Non
Private Sector Steering Committee member position.

Orientation of new members
There was a brief discussion of the need
for new member orientation.

Preliminary Performance Results
Preliminary performance results were
discussed with the members. The final results will be ready for presentation to
the WIB at the December meeting.
V. Annual
Breakfast: CEO of NAWB is speaker
Stephanie Powers the CEO of NAWB is the
keynote speaker at the annual breakfast. All USWIB members will be urged to
attend.
VI. DVD
about workforce system
Mr. McDermott asked permission to show a 9
minute DVD about demand driven workforce solutions to the WIB at the September
meeting.
